Y’all… I’m real excited about this. At first, when I heard about the remake of this classic which was such a huge part of so many of our formative years, I was skeptical. But after seeing the trailer, I am convinced that this movie will be purely awesome. And here’s why:
1. It follows relatively the same plot line. while there are some distinct differences, like the kid suffering culture shock is not a geek moving from New York to California but an urban kid moving from the US to China. Other than that though, it seems to hold true to the spirit of empowering the kid, and teaching him about himself. The trailer even hints that some of the very same techniques will be used to teach the kid to do karate. Sweet.
2. Jaden Smith. Offspring of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. This kid is awesome. He so far has really only been in The Pursuit of Happyness, but he did a pretty good job. And with parents as completely legit as his, it’s impossible not to be totally cool.
3. Last, but most certainly not least, Jackie Chan. That’s right. The Chan himself will be playing the role of Mr. Miyagi (called Mr. Han in this movie). Now, I may be biased, but I love everything Jackie Chan has ever done. Even that cartoon. (Did you know he had a line of clothing? He has a musical career too. neat.)
Anyway I think you should watch this trailer. See what you think. I personally think it will rock my socks. Oh, and it’s supposed to release June 11 of this summer. Awesome.
