You may or may not be aware of this, but for the last five days, Egypt has been experiencing some “unrest”. I say it that way because what is going on in this country is far more serious than “unrest”. It is a revolution. It is violent, bloody, and terrifying.
Here is the wrap-up, as far as I can tell.
Recently, some similar riots broke out in Tunisia, resulting in the overthrow of a tyrannical ruler and the beginning of independence. Egyptians, equally as unhappy with their government, started rioting as well.
You see, Egyptians are basically powerless people in their government. Egypt is ranked 138th of 167 countries on The Economist‘s democratic index, meaning simply, their democracy is no democracy at all.
So, for five days now, Egyptians have been violently protesting, and so far, over 100 people are dead. I don’t pretend to know all of the intricacies, and you should read about it for yourself here, but bottom line, people are hopeless in this country. People are dying for the freedom that we take for granted.
Be informed. Pray.
That is all.
